There are so many things to think about if you’re having a hospital birth. Especially if you’re a bit of a naturally-minded, somewhat crunchy mama!
We felt soooo much better going in prepared!

It’s not that we were against all the hospital practices. But we at least wanted to be informed & try to make the right decisions for us & our baby!
Having a doula there beforehand to help explain things & answer our questions was priceless! Even if you don’t have a doula, Google can be your friend here. I highly recommend at least researching the basics – so you can make informed choices!!
Here is a list of things I personally recommend looking into!
- Golden hour skin to skin
- Delayed weight / measurement
- Delayed cord clamping
- Delayed bath
- Cord banking / donation
- Placenta encapsulation / donation / trash
- Vitamin K
- Hep B
- Erythromycin eye ointment
- Feeding preferences
- Pacifier
I hope this list helps you plan for your baby’s birth!
