I can’t sing to my daughter.
That was a lie that I believed for so many years. Growing up, I was always told that I couldn’t sing. And it’s true, I have a terrible singing voice!
As a kid, I developed this FEAR that I wouldn’t be able to sing to my future children, and it truly worried me. I know how ridiculous that sounds!
I think it came from years and years of babysitting and nannying. (I’m also the girl that was worried about saving up to pay for diapers back when I was 13 – what can I say, I’m a planner! And I always heard parents talk about how expensive diapers were) ha!
I had forgotten about my fear of not being able to sing to my little one, until she arrived. And that’s when I realized something…
She doesn’t care about my singing voice.
She doesn’t care if I hit the notes or I’m out of tune or I mess up the lyrics. She only cares about the fact that I’m there, singing to her at all.
Her little three month old brain is working so hard to process the world around her. And the fact that I can comfort her is such a gift, even if it’s out of tune.
